VITA program has yet another great year
The HRDC Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site is once again the largest free tax preparation site in the state of Montana. The site was responsible for doing 27% of all returns among all VITA sites in the state of Montana for the 2012 tax year.
While the final numbers are still being processed, over 5,000 returns were filed in the state of Montana among the 29 VITA sites. Of those prepared and filed, HRDC was responsible for helping over 1,200 individuals and families complete their federal tax returns.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free income tax return preparation and electronic filing for individuals and families who make less than $51,000 a year. Both state and federal tax returns are prepared by IRS trained and certified community volunteers. HRDC works with the United Way of Yellowstone County, IRS, Montana Credit Unions for Community Development, AmeriCorps Vista, Parmly Billings Library and MSU-Billings to provide this service to local residents.
HRDC continues to provide tax preparation help after the tax deadline by appointment only. Those who still need help filing can call 247-4710.
