Wheels for Work
Funded in part by the United Way of Yellowstone County, the Wheels for Work program is designed to remove transportation barriers that often prevent low-income individuals from maintaining employment.
Who is eligible?
This program is available to individuals residing in Yellowstone County only. Participants must have income below 125% ofand provide 30-days income verification (earned and unearned) for each household member over 18 years old.
Is the program available for homeless youth?
Yes. Homeless youth, ages 16-18, may request a one time service for transportation to work sites, training opportunities or Alternative Education resources.
What types of supportive services are available?
Wheels for Work is designed to assist low-income individuals in a number of ways including gas vouchers, bus passes, cab vouchers, and limited vehicle repairs.
How often can I obtain support?
This program is limited to one time assistance per household.
Do I have to be working to apply for a bus pass?
In order to obtain a bus pass you must be currently employed or seeking employment. Once determined eligible you can receive a one month bus pass.
Do I have to be working to apply for a cab voucher?
Yes. You must be currently employed. Cab vouchers are provided only when no other transportation is available and has a limit of $40 for transport within the Billings city limits.
What is expected of me to receive a gas voucher or car repair for my vehicle?
When applying for a car repair or gas voucher, you must submit copies of your driver’s license, car registration, and current car insurance. In order to receive a gas voucher you must be seeking employment or currently employed. For minor car repairs, you must be currently employed and provide two written cost estimates; phone estimates are not accepted. Where can I pick up an application?
Applications may be picked up at the HRDC main office, 7 North 31st Street, Billings, MT 59101 at the 2nd floor front desk, or you can request one be mailed to you. You can also download an application at the link below:
